Sankar has more than 30 years of extensive industry experience and can draw upon his international background and intercultural competence from professional positions in America, Asia and Europe. Before joining HIMA, he worked as Vice President Product Management and Head of Rail Automation India at Siemens.
Friedhelm Best is Vice President of the Asia Pacific Region at HIMA. He previously worked as Sales Director for Europe and Africa at HIMA and Director of Global Key Account Management Industry in the Electrical Sector of Eaton Corporation. Friedhelm began his career as a sales engineer at HARTING in Germany, and was subsequently key account manager for Automotive Production. He earned degrees in precision engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven and in industrial engineering and management. Friedhelm Best also is a certified Functional Safety Engineer.

Taweelarp Pornkul is the Vice President – Reliability and Asset Integrity of PTT Energy Solutions since 2011, and is responsible for delivering technical consulting services to customer inside and outside the PTT Group company. He is also acting Vice President- Process Safety of the same company.
He has process automation and process safety background with a wide exposure and long experience in maintenance, project engineering, integrity and reliability improvement throughout his 21 years career in oil refinery and petrochemical plant plus another 10 years of technical consulting business.
Sharul A Rashid
Sharul A Rashid is the Principal Engineer, Instrument and Control at PETRONAS in the East Coast Refinery and Aromatics Plant based in Kertih, Terengganu, Malaysia. Sharul has more than 26 years of experience in handling instrumentation and control issues in oil, natural gas, gas liquefaction and petrochemical plants, including the pipeline transmission division. He was involved as an instrumentation expert in many key projects e.g. the Malaysia Peninsular Gas Utilization metering stations project. Sharul has been sharing his valuable experience in the IIOT PETRONAS Digital Transformation Initiative. Prior to joining PETRONAS, Sharul worked at MOTOROLA Semiconductor in Arizona, USA. Sharul graduated with honors in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Miami, Florida. He pursued Master in Engineering in University of Florida, Gainesville, USA . He is a member of the International Society of Automation (ISA), member of Institute of Engineering Malaysia and member of Board of Engineer Malaysia and review committee for IECEx standard as well as for the ISA 75 Control Valve.
Shaheen Chohan is head of Global Market Analytics for Industrial Info Resources and has been managing their market outlooks and forecast client project delivery as well as new product development for the last 8 years. Shaheen has been based in the United Arab Emirates for almost 12 years, where he previously helped run a niche oil & gas strategy and market intelligence advisory firm. Shaheen has also worked in Strategy & Planning for an Abu Dhabi government owned advisory company. Prior to coming to the Middle East, Shaheen was Head of Strategic Marketing in one of the world biggest news, data & information companies and was based in London. In addition, Shaheen spent a number years as a consultant and analyst in two major tier 1 global management consulting firms in London. Shaheen is a UK national who studied Geology at London University and Information Management at Sheffield University (UK) as well as Securities & Investments at City University, London.
Bob Gill is General Manager Southeast Asia at ARC Advisory Group. ARC provides technology research, advisory, and consulting services to many of the world’s leading industrial automation and software suppliers as well as to prominent end-user companies in the manufacturing, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
Bob’s work experience spans 15 years, including engineering roles at British Aerospace, General Electric Company, and SIMTech. He also had a decade-long career in industrial technology media as editor of publications including Control Engineering Asia, Industrial Automation Asia, and Logistics Insight Asia, and he was editor-in-chief at Reed Business Information Asia.
He graduated from the University of Wales (UK) with a BSc in Electronics and an MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and also holds an MBA from NTU in Singapore. As well as numerous articles for industry publications, he was contributing author to Action Learning Cases in Organisational Behaviour (2004) and Many Ships, One Boat: Expat Tales and Tips (2011).
Pasamon Pechrasuwan is a Senior Consultant for Frost & Sullivan's Energy & Environment practice in Asia Pacific. His consulting experience covers renewable energy such as solar power, traditional fuel such as coal-fired power plants, power transmission and distribution equipment, and building technologies such as elevators and escalators. His consulting expertise covers market intelligence, competitor analysis, and strategic partnership identification.
Pasamon holds a Master of Engineering in Civil Infrastructure from Colorado State University and a Professional Certificate in Renewable & Sustainable Energy. He is a registered Associate Civil Engineer and a green building expert (TREES Associate) in Thailand.
Dr. Alexander Horch
Since April 2016, Dr. Alexander Horch is Vice President Research, Development & Product Management at HIMA. Before he worked as Principal Scientist at ABB Corporate Research in Germany with a focus on process plant optimization and plant asset management. Between 2007 and 2016 he held different management roles in the areas of process control systems and automation of electrical grids, smart grids, manufacturing plants, robotics as well as Industrial Internet (Industrie 4.0) for ABB Germany and ABB Switzerland. Dr. Horch is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Automation Professional (CAP) of the ISA. His R&D work was complemented by publications and seminars, regular lectures at university of Stuttgart and ETH Zürich as well as work for some standardization organizations.
Stefan Basenach is the Group Vice President for the Segment Process at HIMA. Stefan previously worked at ABB Germany as an EPC Business Manager, responsible for substations in the EMEA region. He started his career at ABB as an engineer for power plant control systems. At the University of Stuttgart, he studied Engineering Cybernetics.
Peter Sieber has now been with HIMA for 5 Years. He held various positions in international companies during his 33 years of work experience. He started putting a strong focus on functional safety at the end of the 80's. Peter is HIMA's Vice President of the region China and Vice President Norms & Standards. He is actively involved in the development of international standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and IEC 62443. He also is one of the German experts working at the Sino German Collaboration for Industry 4.0 and functional safety. Before joining HIMA, he was CEO of a system integrator BILFINGER Group company which focused on turnkey applications in the process industry.
Nick Stantzos is Vice General Manager for Industrial Services Asia Pacific at TUV Rheinland, where he is responsible for service quality. TUV Rheinland is a global leading independent provider of technical services and has institutionalized the only worldwide extended vocational training program in the field of functional safety, issuing certificates of "Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland)".
Nick’s background is in the energy and renewables area and for the last 10 years he has been working in Asia, having lived in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Jakarta, Beijing and now Singapore. He worked on many projects in waste management, energy efficiency and biomass and biogas technologies under different roles (implementation, origination, investment). In the past Nick also worked for the European Investment Bank, Luxemburg focusing on European climate and waste management financing policy and for E.on Renewables in the UK working on wind farm development. He has a BSc in Environmental Sciences and MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Oxford.
Thomas is the MD for REDCON Security Advisors, which is a specialist team with hybrid skillsets and experiences in both the IT & OT (Operational Technology) worlds. Thomas started out as an IT and security engineer for 8 years, before joining a major industrial automation vendor for another 8 years. Over there, he was involved in several major oil & gas projects and was instrumental in developing new OT security best practices and programmes. Thomas then founded REDCONSA in 2015.
As a cyber security evangelist, Thomas and his team has recently researched and developed a "last-line-of-defence" methodology against the notorious NotPetya malware for the OT sectors, where legacy operating systems are still widely used, and where updating and rebooting of critical systems are near impossible.
Piyavudh Vonglertvidhya has had over 20 year experiences in SCG, Thailand. He has a broad experiences covering engineering, construction, production, quality assurance, technical service, sales and marketing. He is now Commercial Manager for Emerging Business of SCG, including inspection robots. Piyavudh earned his M.Sc. from Imperial College, UK, and an MBA from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand.
